The Harvest Heights
Design Studio III - Sustainable Mixed-Use Residential
Harvest Heights is a comprehensive sustainable mixed-use residential project situated on Sennott Drive in Oakland, Pittsburgh, designed to integrate urban living with environmental stewardship and community production. The program balances 28 total dwelling units (10 two-bedroom and 18 one-bedroom units) with essential ground-level services, including a world cuisine restaurant, a bookstore, and a community center. The site's sustainability is integrated through high-performance systems: the roofs of all buildings are equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels for energy generation, while the central courtyard is dedicated to community farming and local food production. Furthermore, the street-level design actively engages the public realm of Sennott Drive, incorporating dedicated areas for food trucks and vendors, appropriate seating arrangements, and a unique pebble pool, transforming the site edge into a dynamic, social hub that complements the self-sustaining residential ecosystem.
